If you have read the blog at all you will know that my wife and I are serious animal lovers. You may also have noticed that we foster, a lot. Yesterday we had to say goodbye to one of my favorite foster dogs Beilie. An already challenging week, we learned that the Doberman rescue of Colorado will be forced to shut its doors, Beilie, pushing 12 years old, lost the ability to stand on her own. With this, the rescue, Lauren and I, had to make the most difficult of choices.
During the time we had her in our lives she got to a spot in my heart and never let go, I can only imagine that she did the same to whomever called her theirs before.
I sat with her during her final moments, as hard as it was, I am very grateful I did, she deserved it. I only wish we could have had her longer. This was the first time I have had to deal with this. Probably why it has been so hard to cope with. I have a new appreciation for what I have now, the dogs, the cats, the chickens, my lovely wife, this wonderful life that we have even in the hardest of times.
Even when its tough, I wouldn’t change a thing.
